About Monkeybase

A Small Lab, Not A Grand Institution

Monkeybase is built and maintained by Donald Leijon, based in Sweden. I started it as a place to experiment with text tools and AI workflows without building a startup around it — genuine interest in what works, practical background in web and systems development, and a reasonable distrust of anything calling itself revolutionary before lunch.

I am building a site where I can experiment freely, ship small tools, and keep the parts that are useful after the first wave of enthusiasm wears off.

What Monkeybase Covers

The goal is practical education through working examples. Instead of abstract theory, the focus is on what I observed, what the tools actually do, and what you can apply in your own workflow today.

  • How to improve writing quality with readability tools and editing workflows.
  • How to use AI tools with better prompts and clearer structure.
  • How to build and ship small web tools that solve one real problem well.

The Approach

I prefer small, testable steps. Monkeybase publishes experiments, documents what was observed, and keeps the useful parts. The rest can return quietly to the idea drawer. The tiny tools principle explains the product habit behind that approach.

You will find tools, notes, and experiments designed to help you learn by doing: paste your own input, test changes, compare output, and decide what deserves to stay.

Editorial Approach

Three things that are true about how Monkeybase content works:

  • Tools run locally in your browser. Input you paste into any tool stays on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, meaning your messy drafts and private data remain yours alone.
  • Notes separate observations from general advice. Where a note is based on a measured example, it says so and shows the data. Where it is general guidance, it says that too. The content type label on each note (Guide, Checklist, Comparison, Walkthrough, Lab report, Measured example) reflects what kind of content it is.
  • Errors can be reported. If a tool produces wrong output, a note contains a factual error, or something is unclear, use the contact page. Corrections are made to the content, not quietly removed.

Who This Is For

Monkeybase is for writers, developers, and makers who want practical skills without turning every small workflow into a transformation initiative. English-language, tool-focused, and deliberately scoped to what can be verified in a browser.

Contact and Responsibility

Monkeybase is operated by Donald Leijon, based in Sweden. It is an independent publishing and tool-building project with no outside funding. For corrections, privacy requests, or feedback about a tool or note, use the contact page.

Other Sites

I run two other sites alongside Monkeybase, each serving a different audience and language:

  • aiprogrammingmanual.com — English-language, developer-focused. Practical guidance on using AI in code, architecture decisions, debugging, and daily engineering workflow.
  • aipasvenska.se — Swedish-language. Practical AI guidance for professionals without a technical background. Serves a different audience and language than Monkeybase, which is English-only and tool-oriented.
